3 nabbed, P900K worth of cigarettes seized in Zamboanga City port

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has arrested three individuals and confiscated 30 cartons of assorted cigarettes with estimated value of P900,000.00 in an anti-smuggling operation in Zamboanga City port.

The BOC Port of Zamboanga, as well as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), conducted an operation Wednesday, September 18, following an information that certain individuals were engaged in cigarette smuggling in Magay Public Market in the city.

The seized cigarettes were found loaded in two hatch back type vehicles inside the Pier Area in Zamboanga City.

The drivers of the vehicles failed to present pertinent documents when they were accosted by the joint operatives, BOC said.

The three apprehended individuals were immediately brought to NBI for further investigation and for filing of possible charges.

The Customs said the vehicles and the cigarettes will be subjected to forfeiture proceedings.
