2 Reds surrender; 9 high-powered firearms recovered in Malaybalay


Two alleged members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) have surrendered to the authorities in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

Lt. Gen. Felimon T. Santos Jr., commander of Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), said that certain alias Jay/Jr and alias Gelai/Venus yielded to Malaybalay City Mayor Florencio T. Flores Jr. and 403rd Brigade Commander Brigadier General Edgardo Y. De Leon on November 11.

During the interview by the military, the two former rebels disclosed the existence of an armed cache in a forested area in Sitio Kubayan, Barangay Kibenton, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon.

Upon verification, elements of the Special Forces yielded nine high-powered firearms and war materials consisting of five 5.56mm M16A1 rifles; one 5.56mm R4A3 rifle; one M14 rifle; one Carbine rifle; one AK47 rifle; one telescope; 30 magazine assemblies; assorted live ammunition of different calibres; and two commercial radios, Eastmincom said.
