Two persons were killed and three others were injured when a grenade was allegedly thrown inside a mosque in Zamboanga City early Wednesday, police said.
The attack in the mosque took place three days after the bloody cathedral bombing in Jolo, Sulu Sunday, January 27, killing 20 persons and wounding over a hundred others.
According to local police, the incident transpired at 12:20 a.m. at Logoy Diutay, Barangay Talon-Talon where the victims, including Muslim religious leaders, were sleeping.
Killed in the blast were Sattal M. Bato and Rex Z. Habil while those injured were Palson Saji Asgali, Alnizkar A. Sabbaha and Jikilani J. Albani, who were brought in the hospital for treatment.
The Ulama Council of Zamboanga Peninsula, in a statement, strongly condemned “this devilish, irrational and inhumane act.”
“We call upon the Zamboangeneos to be calm yet vigilant with current bombing incident in Masjid Jutay in Barangay Talon Talon ZC,” the group said.
The religious group also extended its sympathies to the victims and their families.
It also asked the authorities to arrest the perpetrators.
“May the perpetrators of the crime be brought to justice!” it said.
