Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista has led the gift-giving for two centenarians in the city.
The centenarians are Faustina Gaspan Costelo, who will be 107 years old on February 16, a resident of Barangay Magsaysay, and Fructuoso Colares Daga, who turned 100 years old on January 20 from Barangay Poblacion.
“The gift giving is in recognition and appreciation of the centenarians who reached a remarkable milestone in their lives,” the local government said.
Each centenarian received P50,000 cash gift and certificate of commendation from the city officials during the event Friday, February 7.
Daga was accompanied by his 95 year old wife Carmen who also received a P3,000 cash from the city government.
Also present during the gift giving are the children and families of the two centenarians.
The local government said the children of the centenarians shared that the secret of their parents’ long life is a steady diet of vegetables and fruits and avoiding red meat as well as being active physically for most of their lives.
The local government earlier passed an ordinance giving cash incentives to senior citizens who reached 80 years old and above.
Under the ordinance, all senior citizens in the city who reach 100 years old will be given P50,000 cash incentive by the local government aside from the P100,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Senior Citizens aged 90-99 years old will be given P3,000 while those seniors 80-89 years old will get P2,000.
