The Department of Health (DOH) has approved the accreditation of Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) as first licensed coronavirus disease (Covid-19) testing laboratory in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“This development means BARMM areas in mainland Mindanao will now be relieved of the difficulty in having to send swabs and samples for Covid-19 testing to Metro Manila’s Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) or Davao City’s Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC),” the regional government said.
Last April, the Bangsamoro government allocated a total amount of ₱14,135,500.00 to the CRMC for the procurement and upgrading of medical and laboratory supplies to carry out diagnostic testing for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, BARMM Minister of Health Dr. Saffrullah Dipatuan administered Tuesday, May 19, the oath-taking of the 73 newly-appointed community midwives from Maguindanao.
Some 38 midwifery personnel from the province of Basilan and the City of Lamitan also took their oath on the same day in the said province.
The Ministry of Health plans to hire more than 100 midwives in the region as it encourages midwives to apply to become part of human resources for health and deployment program.
