Local officials from Lanao del Norte have turned over 19 high-powered firearms to the military.

Lt. Col. Bernardo Taqueben, commander of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, said that the handover, which was held Friday, September 6, at Munai Municipal Hall, was a result of the intensified collaboration and concerted efforts of the local government units, stakeholders and security forces.

The surrendered firearms include a caliber 50 Barrett, an M14 sniper, 11 M16A1, two Carbine, and four Garand rifles with magazines and ammunition.

“We hope to convince more local officials and the people of Mindanao to actively take part in our campaign against loose firearms and illegal drugs to end violence in the area,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.
