Zarate slams potential Pinoy backers of US drone strikes: I-Artikulo Uno yan!
Bayan Muna Party-List Rep. Carlos Zarate said those who will support the alleged United States (US) plan to bomb Marawi City via its drones should be executed without trial.
“Kataksilan sa bayan ang pagsuporta sa plano ng mga dayuhan na bombahin unilaterally…yun ang kanilang announcement,” the leftist politiko said Thursday (August 10), referring to a New York Times (NYT) report.
“Pero kung susuportahan pa ito ng mga kababayan natin talagang malaking kataksilan yan at dapat i-Artikulo Uno yan kung sa panahon ni Heneral Luna,” added Zarate, who hails from Davao.
Marawi in Lanao del Sur continues to be a war zone due to the continued presence of ISIS-linked Maute Group terrorists there. They first occupied the city last May 23.
Based on the NYT report, the US military is looking to deploy its drones to the Philippines, which is their longtime mutual defense treaty partner.
But Zarate said that US drone attacks are known to kill civilians more than their intended terrorist targets.
“Kaya nananawagan tayo na hindi ito dapat suportahan ninoman lalo na ng mga opisyal ng pamahalaan. Ito ay tahasang paglabag sa soberanya ng bansa at sa ating saligang batas,” the solon stressed.
Zarate calls himself the “Heneral Luna” of the Makabayan Bloc. #
