Wag kang mamahiya! Ex-CDO solon Benaldo’s P1-B uncollected tax claim questioned
Former Cagayan de Oro congressman Jose Benjamin Benaldo has been called out by a government-owned corporation (GOCC) official in Northern Mindanao for embarrassing its business locators.
This, after Benaldo claimed in an exposé that over P1.06 billion in taxes and other obligations owed by establishments operating within the industrial economic zone in Misamis Oriental have remained uncollected.
Phividec Industrial Authority-Misamis Oriental (PIA-MO) Administrator Leo Tereso Magno questioned the allegations of the ex-House politiko.
“While we appreciate the enthusiasm of Mr. Benaldo in trying to enforce the proper collection of taxes, the same must not be done to shame and embarrass the locators of Phividec, who have invested significant amounts of capital and introduced numerous jobs in the region,” Magno was quoted as saying in a SunStar Online report on Monday (July 17).
No thanks to the ex-solon, Magno said the locators were “embarrassed despite the fact that their listed liabilities have yet to be legally determined and resolved.”
Benaldo served as congressman from 2010 to 2013. He was recently appointed as member of the PIA-MO board of directors.
He was famously married to Brazilian model, Daiana Menezes.
