Surigao to probe ‘nude carabao ride’ in Siargao

A so-called “nude carabao ride” in Siargao Island, reportedly offered by a British national, has earned the ire of local officials there.

Marlon Coro, president of the Provincial Councilors League of Surigao del Norte, said he received complaints about the rides organized by British national Liam Cox.

He called for an investigation into the reports after many residents complained the rides do not fit the local culture.

For his part, Cox has reportedly apologized for organizing such rides.

“In the light of recent events, it has come to our attention that some of the photos from our Carabao Ride that were posted on our social media pages caused quite a public stir. We sincerely apologize to anyone whose decency and good custom may have been offended,” Cox said.

He said all photos posted on his social media account have been taken down.

Cox organizes the ride for foreign guests, and then pays the local farmers who own the carabaos.

Siargao is popular with tourists mainly as a surfing site.
