Surigao Del Norte constructs first women center in Sta. Monica town

As part of the efforts to eliminate violence against women, the Surigao Del Norte provincial government announced that it has launched its first women center in Sta. Monica town.

Construction of the facility was funded by the Department of Interior and Local Government.

This is after Surigao del Norte achieved the DILG’s Seal of Good Local Governance allowing them to utilize their Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) incentives.

The women center was built through the P1 million PCF incentive of the local government unit with the P3.9 million LGU counterpart.

Aside from the said advantages, the center’s second floor will also provide accommodation for visitors and tourists when visiting the province’s tourist spots.

“Now we can provide accommodation to visitors here in our town plus we earn from the rental at the ground floor,” Sta. Monica Vice-Mayor Arena Dolar.

DILG Secretary Ismael D. Sueno said it was a perfect timing for women organizations and other departments in Surigao Del Norte to discuss major concerns regarding women.
