Sara Duterte pushes for senatorial bid of Pia Cayetano, Mocha Uson
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has endorsed 2nd District Taguig City-Pateros Rep. Pia S. Cayetano and Presidential Communications Operations Office Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson as her senatorial bets for the 2019 elections.
The presidential daughter made the endorsement in front of the Filipino community during her attendance in the Tapang at Malasakit Alliance for the Philippines meeting in Hong Kong.
“Meron akong i-endorse in my stead. Nandyan si (Asec) Mocha Uson at nandyan si (former) Senator Pia Cayetano. Sila ang ilagay natin na mga senators,” said Duterte-Carpio, who reiterated that she would not join in next year’s senatorial race.
Prior to becoming a congresswoman, Cayetano served as senator for two consecutive terms from June 2004 to June 2016.
Uson earlier said she would not run for the Senate because she was not a politician.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez had announced that Uson could be part of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) senatorial slate for the 2019 elections.
Uson has said she would only entertain a senatorial bid if it would be President Rodrigo Duterte who would ask her to run.
