Rep. Nograles to DOH: Provide safeguards vs fake Dengvaxia cards
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Davao City Representative Karlo Nograles has urged the Department of Health (DOH) to come up with stringent safeguards to prevent the proliferation of fake Dengvaxia cards.
During the briefing by the Department of Health (DOH) before the Appropriations panel on Wednesday, May 16, it was learned that the DOH-issued Dengvaxia cards were being forged.
“The Dengvaxia cards will be key in monitoring the health status of the vaccinees. It will also facilitate hospitalization and treatment of the card holders as they may be needed. It is then incumbent upon the DOH to make sure that fake cards are identified and weeded from the system,” Nograles said.
The DOH has issued Dengvaxia cards to school children who received the anti-dengue Dengvaxia vaccine as part of the government’s monitoring following the controversy.
At least 39 recipients of Dengvaxia reportedly died.
President Rodrigo Duterte has said the government would tap independent experts to find out if the deaths were really due to Dengvaxia, which was manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur.
