Pimentel on Alvarez’s planned BIR probe: Push mo yan boss!
Surigao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Johnny Pimentel says he’s willing to support House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s reported plan of investigating Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) officials headed by controversial Commissioner Caesar Dulay.
“We are ready to support the Speaker,” Pimentel said Tuesday, July 11. The politiko chairs the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.
According to reports, Alvarez will soon file a House Resolution (HR) calling for an inquiry in aid of legislation on Dulay and other agency officials amid the filing of a plunder case before the Ombudsman against the same BIR personalities.
The Ombudsman case has to do with the BIR’s alleged reduction of the tax liabilities of Del Monte Philippines Inc., which was reportedly made to pay only P65.4 million for taxable years 2011 to 2013.
The amount is a pittance compared to the true tax liability of the company, pegged at P29 billion. That means that the government lost almost that much in revenue.
It can be recalled that the Duterte administration declared a zero tolerance policy against corruption in government. #
