Mindanao bishop condemns Maguindanao chapel attack; Binaboy ang simbahan
A new attack on a chapel in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao has drawn condemnation from Cotabato Cardinal Orlando Quevedo.
Quevedo branded as a “criminal act” the burning and desecration of the chapel at Barangay Labu-Labu by unidentified armed men.
“This criminal act is an abhorrent desecration of a place of Catholic worship,” Quevedo said of the attack, which occurred last Nov. 9.
“Such a crime is most disturbing and provocative,” he added, but warned against revenge. “Despite provocation, follow the Lord’s injunction of peace and not revenge,” he said.
He said the destruction of the statues in the chapel is “gravely disrespectful” of Catholic beliefs.
Quevedo appealed to the public, government officials, and the archdiocese’s partners in the Bangsamoro peace process to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
Last June 23, suspected Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters members attacked a chapel in Pigcawayan in Cotabato, and destroyed religious icons and the Sacred Hosts.
