Matapos tablahin: NPA abducts cop and stages offensives in Davao
After its offer to help government fight the ISIS-inspired Maute group in Mindanao was spurned, the communist New People’s Army abducting a policeman and launching an offensive against the military in Davao City.
The NPA in Southern Mindanao abducted SPO2 George Canete Rupinta, 52, of Barangay Tagugpo in Lupon in Davao Oriental, and declared him a “prisoner of war” last Monday.
NPA spokesman Rigoberto Sanchez said Rupinta was captured by the 6th Pulang Bagani Company and the Guerrilla Front 18 last June 9. Seized from him was a 9-mm handgun.
Sanchez said Rupinta was “under investigation for the anti-people activities of his police unit in Lupon.”
The NPA also said its 1st Pulang Bagani Battalion staged an offensive attack against military troops last June 11, killing nine soldiers and wounding six.
Sanchez said two civilians were wounded after the military “strafed a house in Paradise Embac.”
