Maiba naman: Surigao diocese eyes eco-tourism to replace suspended mining firms

Why not replace mining with eco-tourism as a major income generator in the Surigao area?

A bishop in the Surigao diocese suggested this as they vowed to watch the activities of mining firms suspended by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

“We can do alternatives and sa Surigao maraming natural resources sa eco-tourism, yun na lang sana ang mapaganda at ma-enhance, mas maganda ang eco-tourism kasi ang Surigao kilala na na magandang puntahan,” Bishop Antonieto Cabajog said on Church-run Radyo Veritas.

In the meantime, Cabajog said the diocese formed a monitoring team to make sure these firms do not violate the DENR’s suspension order.

Local government and Church officials earlier agreed to end irresponsible mining in the country.
