Kalma lang! Here’s why Sema ain’t worried over BBL’s omission in SONA
Maguindanao 1st District Rep. Bai Sandra Sema told her fellow Muslims to chill despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s conspicuous non-mention of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday (July 24).
In an interview over Brigada News FM Cotabato City Wednesday (July 26), Sema, who is a deputy speaker in the House of Representatives (HOR), noted that the President doesn’t always have to mention his administration’s priority legislation in his or her SONA.
Duterte, who is also from Mindanao, is sincere about plans of establishing the Bangsamoro juridical entity in the far south, the lady politiko said.
For one thing, the President expanded the membership of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), which was tasked to draft the new BBL following its failed passage during the previous Aquino administration.
The BBL, when enacted, will pave the way for the Bangsamoro entity. It will replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Last July 17, BTC Chairman Guiadzali Jaafar formally submitted the new draft BBL to Malacañang, which will then transmit the proposed law to Congress.
