More infra projects to strengthen food industry in Mindanao
President Rodrigo Duterte said the government is “aggressively pursuing” infrastructure projects in Mindanao to solidify its role as the country’s food basket.
During the closing ceremony of the Mindanao Business Conference in Cagayan de Oro City on Saturday, Duterte told some 600 business leaders that the government has allocated funds to build structures for easier transfer of goods and services to and from the region.
The President said he’s optimistic that Mindanao’s contribution to the country’s growth and development lies on its abundant resources and dynamic people.
Duterte, who hails from Mindanao, said the government will also give assistance to the region’s agri-fishery industry.
“The Color-Coded Agri-Fishery Map is now available to our farmers to help them identify the most suitable crops for their farms…and this will be continuously improved with new data and tools to provide more information for our farmers and fisherfolks,” he said.
During his speech, the President also sought help from the private sector, under the current political context in Mindanao due to the Marawi siege.
The President assured Mindanao-based investors and businesses that the government will restore and rehabilitate the once flourishing city of Marawi.
