Guns and violence: VG Shirlyn Villanueva shares life as a child in Mindanao
This Politiko had some major childhood throwback of bad memories.
Cotabato Vice Governor Shirlyn Macasarte Villanueva recently shared her harrowing childhood experience growing up in Mindanao. On her Facebook account, the Politiko recounted how she would sleep with her slippers in her arms and cloth inside a sack as part of their emergency kit.
“We have tried to sleep inside the Culvert hoping me and my elder brother will be shield from the arm conflict happening then between our locals (as it would take 2-3 days before a military re enforcement will arrived) and MNLF forces”, she quipped.
She also narrated how the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) managed to attack and hold their town hostage during her sister’s wedding, and her failure to attend her own graduation rites due to sudden evacuation.
“I can’t help but offer prayer of peace and protection to those families who have nothing to do with the ongoing war in the marshy area that was subjected to air strike since dawn and this morning. Every men and women, especially the children has the right to live in a peaceful environment”, she added.
Recently, some rebel attacks were reported at the Liguasan Marsh in Maguindanao. VG Shirlyn had been vocal about the need for air operations in the area.
