The government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have started to get the support of the stakeholders on the Organic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (OLBARMM) by asking them to affix their signature in a manifesto.

The signing of a manifesto took place during the ceremonial presentation of the new law held Wednesday, August 8, at the seat of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in Cotabato City.

Deputy Presidential Peace Adviser Nabil A. Tan, who is also the Chair of the Government Implementing Panel for the GPH-MILF peace accord, and Chair of MILF Implementing Panel Mohagher Iqbal spearheaded the activity.

The presentation was aimed to encourage the Bangsamoro people and other stakeholders to continue supporting the peace process.

“This is just the beginning, we must double our efforts to make this law successful,” Tan said.

“With the plebiscite upcoming, I encourage everyone to continue bringing the message of the Bangsamoro Organic Law,” he added.

The plebiscite is expected to take place later this year.

Also present in the event were ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman, Commissioner Susana Anayatin of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) and Dato’ Kamarudin bin Mustafa, Malaysian facilitator for the Bangsamoro peace talks.

President Rodrigo Duterte has led the ceremonial presentation of the new law in Malacanang Monday, August 6.

The Republic Act No. 11054 or OLBARMM signed on July 27 amends Organic Act. No. 9054, the legal framework of the present ARMM.

With the new law, the government and the supporters of the peace process have expressed hope that lasting peace in Mindanao would finally be attained.
