Filipino with suspected links to kidnap group killed in Sabah: Na monitor eh
A Filipino with suspected links to a Mindanao-based kidnap gang was gunned down after allegedly engaging authorities there in a shootout early Friday, Sabah police said.
Police identified the Filipino as Masurati Insawan, 50, who they said engaged police in a shootout in Sabah’s east coast Kunak district.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the Filipino was an informer for the kidnap group and was involved in sea robberies of fishermen.
Initial information showed Insawan, also known as “Tarab,” was intercepted in the waters off Pulau Burung during Ops Sea Hunter at about 2:30 a.m. Friday.
According to police, its team approached the suspect but he opened fire, prompting the lawmen to fire back.
Recovered from him were a cal-.38 handgun, and a samurai sword.
