Ex-PBA star helps former communists; Bayani sa kaliwa
Former basketball superstar Kenneth Duremdes proved he is a hero off the court too, as he donated solar panels to former communist New People’s Army rebels in Senator Ninoy Aquino town in Sultan Kudarat.
Duremdes and representatives from the local government went to Barangay Kuden to distribute solar panels that will supply electricity to the returnees’ houses.
Duremdes and his groupmates also dispersed clothes to the local indigenous peoples community.
Some 60 former NPAs under Guerilla Front 73 had turned themselves in to the military since May (http://www.ndbcnews.com.ph/news/army-pba-legend-donate-solar-panels-food-to-former-npa-rebels-in-sk).
Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc, head of the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion, joined Duremdes in going to the village.
Earlier, Cabunoc presented six former rebels to Sultan Kudarat Gov. Pax Mangudadatu. The Army is working to save IP members who joined the NPA.
Cabunoc said the rebels will get livelihood assistance through the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP).
