Ex-Gov Tan faces raps over abduction of German journalist

Former Sulu governor Abdusakur Tan faces a criminal complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman over the July 2000 kidnapping of German Der Spiegel correspondent Andreas Lorenz.

The Ombudsman has began conducting its investigation over the alleged kidnapping based on the complaint of Temogen Tulawie, who belongs to a rival clan of Tan.

Tulawie claimed Tan conspired with the bandits to kidnap Lorenz.

The complainant said this was the reason why Tan insisted that negotiations should be done through him.

Tulawie said it was Tan who received the ransom money from Der Speigel foreign editor Olaf Ihlau.

Meanwhile, the Ombudsman granted the appeals of Tan and his co-respondents to file their respective counter-affidavits on December 6.
