Di sang-ayon kay Duterte? Adiong says Maranao not to blame for Marawi crisis

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong has taken exception to the idea that it’s the Maranao who should be blamed for the crisis in Marawi City.

Adiong, in DZIQ report posted Saturday (July 8), said that civilians in Marawai can only do so much to stop the occupation of the heavily armed Maute Group members.

The ISIS-linked Islamic rebels marched into the predominantly Muslim city last May 23. They have yet to be flushed out completely by government troops.

Adiong, spokesman of the Marawi Crisis Management Committee, noted that local folk were getting ready for the holy month of Ramadan when the siege began.

The politiko underscored that the Maranao are the victims of the current situation and not the cause of it.

President Rodrigo Duterte, in a recent speech in Digos City, expressed his anger toward his fellow Maranao for supposedly letting the terrorists enter Marawi.
