Davao City allots P44M for Kadayawan festival
The city government of Davao has earmarked P44 million for this year’s Kadayawan Festival, P2 million higher than last year’s budget, an official said.
City Tourism Officer-in-charge Regina Rosa Tecson said of the total budget, the city government will shoulder P12 million for the prizes and the food of the security personnel, while the private sector will raise the remaining amount.
This year’s festivity will take longer as it will start on August 10 until August 19, she said.
The official said that some 200,000 foreign and local visitors are expected to participate in the festivity.
“Last year, we hit more than 185,000 guests so this year, we are targeting more tourists to come and celebrate the festivity with us,” she said.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio urged the Dabawenyos to participate in the events.
“With this year’s Kadayawan, let us show the world what Davao City and the Dabawenyos have to offer,” she said.
She also invited the tourists to experience Davao.
“Come witness the colors of Kadayawan and experience the best of Davao City,” the presidential daughter said.
For the first time, Davao City has tapped a festival management director to run all Kadayawan activities.
