Dami nang kumontra! Tawi-Tawi Mayor Salih slams Napolcom over deputation controversy
Tandubas, Tawi-Tawi Mayor Rahima Salih has joined the chorus of Mindanao politikos who are demanding answers from the National Police Commission (Napolcom) regarding its recent mass removal of police deputation on these officials.
“We will formally question this matter before the Napolcom. It is hurting our people,” the lady mayor was quoted as saying in SunStar Online report Saturday (July 15).
Salih and 131 fellow mayors down south were recently stripped of their police powers over what Napolcom called as their failure to fight terrorism and illegal drugs in their areas. Seven Mindanao governors also received the same fate.
“The reasons are very unfair. It tainted our good name and our performance,” said Salih.
Earlier, Napolcom Vice Chairman and Executive Officer, lawyer Rogelio Casurao said the 139 Mindanao politikos “failed to impose measures to suppress terroristic acts and prevent lawless violence in their territories which is inimical to national security and poses serious threat to the lives and security of their constituents.”
Casurao said there were also reports of local chief executives in Mindanao being involved in the illegal drug trade, which is tantamount to providing support, in one way or another, to the Maute terrorist group or other criminal elements in their jurisdiction.
“I cannot accept the reasons. That is totally a lie. My municipality is a terrorism and drug-free place,” Salih added.
Mindanao is currently under military rule due to the occupation of ISIS-linked Maute Group members in Marawi City.
