Comelec official in Misamis Oriental town falls in anti-drug op
An Officer-in-charge of a municipal office of Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Misamis Oriental was arrested in a buy-bust operation.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron N. Aquino identified the suspect as Jose Mari Villar Fernandez, 40 years old, a resident of Bloomingdale Subdivision, Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City.
Fernandez is presently the OIC, Comelec of Gitagum, Misamis Oriental.
The suspect was nabbed during a buy-bust operation in his neighborhood in Bloomingdale Subdivision, Barangay Iponan on August 8.
Seized during the operation were five transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing 10.219 grams worth P68,000, and one mobile phone.
Fernandez would face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
He is currently detained at PDEA Regional Office X jail facility in Cagayan de Oro City.
