Church-based group gives relief to Marawi refugees

A Catholic Church group is helping extend aid to residents of Marawi City who were displaced by ongoing fighting between government troops and the Maute group.

The Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Philippines distributed relief goods to internally displaced people from Marawi.

The group worked with the Iligan Diocese and the Order of Malta in distributing 1,500 sanitary kits containing items requested by the evacuees, including those in Tambacan in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.

ACN noted home-based IDPs “still sorely lack basic resources for their daily needs.”

For its part, the Iligan Diocese has started to request for other needs aside from food and drinks.

It is calling for donations of soap, sanitary napkins, malong, and other personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes and insect repellants.

Meanwhile, residents are also requesting electric fans and decent cribs for mothers with infants.
