Bounce back! Davao tourist arrivals pick up again after martial law
After an initial drop last May, tourist arrivals in President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown of Davao City are bouncing back, city official said.
The City Tourism Operations Office cited data showing there were 185,660 tourist arrivals in August, up from a low of 151,170 in July.
But this was still below the 181,629 in May, when martial law was declared over Mindanao due to the threat from the Maute group on Marawi City .
At the time martial law was declared, the city was enjoying a steady increase in arrivals since January 2017.
Meanwhile, City Tourism Operations Office head Generose Tecson said they are still hopeful they can surpass the 1.8 million arrivals last year.
“We need to get at least 200,000 each month for the remaining four months to get the targeted two million arrivals,” Tecson said.
