Barbers slams BOC: Pinahiya niyo si Duterte!
Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said Sunday (July 30) that the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) booboo that led to the entry of P6.4 billion worth of shabu in the country dealt President Rodrigo Duterte with a proverbial shiner.
“Yes it did cause a black eye and undermined the present campaign against drugs,” said Barbers, the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs chairman.
The aggressive anti-drug drive is of course the main thrust of the Duterte administration.
According to the Mindanao lawmaker, drug lords know that the BOC is ridden with corrupt officials, thus they are taking advantage of it.
“It seems that the drug lords has shifted their strategy from manufacturing drugs here via their own shabu lab to now via importation coz they know that our ports are porous and BOC and government officials can be corrupted. So their money, power and influence are now at work,” he said.
Despite questionable circumstances, the BOC failed to flag the shipment of P6.4 billion worth of drugs and even classified it as worthy of its green lane, which is very lax inspection-wise.
