Asan na ang tropa natin? Marawi Mayor Gandamra sounds helpless amid Maute siege
Marawi Mayor Majul Gandamra rued the absence of government troops during the height of Tuesday’s (May 23) reported siege of the city by the ISIS-linked Maute group.
“I was coordinating with the military and the PNP for them to send reinforcement dahil sa ngayon po wala pong presence ang military at PNP dito in the heart of the city,” Gandamra told ANC in an interview Tuesday night.
Just hours earlier, black-clad and armed Maute members marched into Marawi in the middle of an apparent clash with the military. They reportedly blocked entry points to the city.
” So yan ang problema po dahil kung nandito ang grupo na yun at wala silang maramdamang presence ng ating government troops ay pwede na nilang gawin ang gusto nila,” the mayor said, sounding rather helpless.
“So right now po I am appealling to our government troops na pumunta sila dito and secure the area. For example dito sa city hall kami lang ang nandito,” Gandamra said.
Military and police personnel are scheduled to arrive in Marawi this morning, reports said. #
