The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) government has earmarked P130 million for the repair and rehabilitation of 612 classrooms in public elementary and secondary schools in the region in time for the opening of classes in June.
ARMM’s Education Department (DepEd-ARMM) Assistant Secretary Alfhadar Pajiji said Lanao del Sur has the most number of classrooms to be repaired, numbering to 214.
Also to undergo repair and rehabilitation are 158 classrooms in Maguindanao; 31 in Marawi City; 41 in Lamitan City; 32 in Basilan; 106 in Sulu; and 30 in Tawi-Tawi.
“The projects are intended for major repairs while minor repairs including painting and cleaning of classrooms will be done during the Brigada Eskwela, which will start in May,” Pajiji said.
He said the DepEd-ARMM and the region’s Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation of the projects.
He added that the district engineers in each province will supervise the projects.
Currently, ARMM has 2,155 elementary schools and 304 secondary schools. #
