Alvarez now has his complete PDP senatorial bets , but admits Duterte has last say
The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) seemed to have a complete line up already for the 2019 senatorial elections, with two of them coming from other political party but supportive of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration. This is as far as House Speaker Alvarez was concerned.
In the mass oath taking ceremony of new PDP members held in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur Friday, March 23, Alvarez urged the PDP members to support Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano and Senator Cynthia Villar, both from Nacionalista Party, in their senatorial bid.
“They are not members of the party but they are very supportive of the President,” he said.
Alvarez said the other personalities who are possibly included in the PDP senatorial ticket are incumbent lawmakers such as Senate Pres. Aquilino Pimentel III and Reps. Sajid Mangudadatu, Karlo Nograles, Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, Geraldine Roman, and Reynaldo Umali.
From the Executive department, he named Special Presidential Assistant Christopher “Bong” Go, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson and Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino.
However, Alvarez acknowledged that Duterte has the last say as to the PDP official senatorial bets.
“But the one who would determine the final list of the administration’s senatorial ticket is of course President Duterte,” he said.
He also said that PDP’s own and guest candidates should support federalism.
“It will be (a requirement) definitely, because federalism is the cornerstone of the PDP,” he stressed. #
