Alvarez: ‘I have no religion’
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez revealed on Sunday that he is not affiliated with any religion, even though he believes in God.
In a DZMM radio interview, he was asked by anchor Julius Babao, “Matanong lang, Speaker, Katoliko po kayo?”
“Hindi, Julius, wala akong relihiyon pero I really do believe in God,” Alvarez replied.
Babao repeated his question, “Wala kayong relihiyon sir?”
The Speaker cited John Lennon’s song “Imagine,” which he said made hm reflect about a world without religion.
“Imagine there’s no heaven/ It’s easy if you try/ No hell below us/ Above us only sky/ Imagine all the people living for today,” the song goes.
Alvarez is separated from his legal wife Emelita and has a new partner, Jennifer Vicencio. Last year, he claimed he is a member of the Manobo tribe, and thus entitled to multiple marriages.
