Alvarez to CA justices who want him cited for contempt: Mga gago kayo!
Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has branded magistrates of the Court of Appeals’ (CA) Special Fourth Division as “fools” for starting contempt proceedings against him over the House of Representatives’ (HOR) refusal to free the so-called “Ilocos 6.”
The six refers to the Ilocos Norte Provincial Government employees who were cited for contempt late last month by the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability for refusing to tell the truth on the alleged anomalous purchase of motor vehicles amounting to P66.45 million.
The money was sourced from the Capitol’s share of tobacco excise taxes.
“That’s gross Ignorance of the law. Mga gago yang tatlong justices na yan!” Alvarez told HOR reporters Wednesday, June 14.
The House leader was referring to CA Associate Justices Stephen Cruz, Edwin Sorongon and Nina Antonino-Valenzuela.
Aside from Alvarez, the trio also wants to cite for contempt House Sergeant at Arms (retired) Lt. Gen. Roland Detabali. This, after the HOR defied for the third time the CA’s release order for the Ilocos 6.
Alvarez, a lawyer, was reportedly the one who instructed Detabali to disregard the court order.
It should be noted that the legislature views itself as a co-equal branch with the judiciary.
